What are the benefits of essential oils?
Essential oils can assist and support your body with everything from small cuts and burns (Lavender) to some kinds of cancer (Frankincense). Digestzen can help with nausea associated with chemo treatments. Essential oils can relieve stress and support you through stress related illness.
Why I use essential oils:
A little over 20 years ago I had a ton of stress in my life. I began to get very sick. I had headaches so bad I could not open my eyes, dizzy spells so bad I couldn’t drive to work, and several other issues going on all at the same time. I went to my doctor and for six months he could not figure out what was wrong. I finally went to a naturopath (Ayurveda) who discovered that I was anemic, I had a digestive issue in which my body didn’t digest my food properly, and a thyroid imbalance. I began trying natural solutions, since western medicine wasn’t working for me. I found out that lavender oil helped with my dry T-Zone and also helped me sleep. I discovered, too, accidentally, that it also keeps me from getting acne, Bonus! I now use cardamom for chest congestion and issues related to anger, frankincense for inflammation and on a couple moles that began to grow and change, lavender for burns (I keep a small spray bottle of pure lavender oil in the kitchen), and communication issues. Oh, and I still use it on my face; turns out it’s great for reducing wrinkles as well, who knew? I use eucalyptus for colds, flu, and allergies (anything that clogs the nose). These are just a few of the oils I use, there are so many more.

What is an essential oil?
Essential oils are natural, aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, and flowers of plants. They are generally extracted by distillation, often by using steam. Essential oils have been used throughout history for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits. They aren’t really oils at all as they lack fatty acids, rather they are plant components. It takes a large amount of plant material to get a small amount of essential oil which is why some essential oils are very expensive, for example, it takes more than 10,000 rose buds to make a 5 ml bottle of Rose essential oil. Be careful when buying Rose oil, if you are not paying hundreds of dollars, it’s probably not pure.
